Official Site® | Ledger Wallet | Getting Started®
Welcome to the official guide for getting started with Ledger Wallet®, the industry leader in crypto security. Whether you’re new to digital assets or transitioning from software wallets, this page walks you through the essential steps for setting up, securing, and managing your crypto with confidence.
🔒 Why Ledger?
Ledger devices keep your private keys offline — away from hackers, viruses, and prying eyes. You sign transactions on the device itself, ensuring full control and optimal safety.
1. What is a Ledger Wallet®?
A Ledger Wallet® is a hardware wallet — a physical device used to store private keys securely. It supports thousands of cryptocurrencies, tokens, and NFTs. Paired with Ledger Live (desktop/mobile app), it enables safe and intuitive crypto management.
2. Choose Your Device
Ledger currently offers several models:
- Ledger Nano S Plus® — Affordable, supports 100+ apps
- Ledger Nano X® — Bluetooth support for mobile use
- Ledger Stax® — Touchscreen, e-ink display, premium experience
You can purchase directly from the official Ledger site to ensure authenticity.
3. What's Inside the Box?
- Ledger device (Nano X, Nano S Plus, or Stax)
- USB cable (USB-A or USB-C)
- Recovery phrase sheets
- Getting started guide
⚠️ Security Tip: Never buy a Ledger wallet from third-party marketplaces. Always purchase from the official site to avoid tampered devices.
4. Setting Up Your Ledger Wallet®
Start by connecting your device to your computer and downloading Ledger Live.
- Open Ledger Live and click "Get Started"
- Choose your device model
- Select “Set up as new device”
- Follow the on-device instructions to create a PIN code
- Write down the 24-word recovery phrase by hand
🧠 Remember: This 24-word phrase is your wallet. If you lose your device, you can restore everything using this phrase — but if someone else gets it, they can access your funds.
5. Install Apps on Your Device
Ledger devices use apps to manage different cryptocurrencies. For example, Bitcoin and Ethereum each require a separate app.
- Open Ledger Live and navigate to "My Ledger"
- Connect and unlock your device
- Allow Ledger Manager access
- Search and install blockchain apps (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana)
You can install multiple apps and remove them without losing funds — your accounts remain linked to your 24-word recovery phrase.
6. Add Accounts in Ledger Live
Once apps are installed, go to the “Accounts” section:
- Click "Add Account"
- Select a crypto asset (e.g., Ethereum)
- Confirm with your Ledger device
- Your account is now added to Ledger Live
7. Receiving Crypto
To receive assets:
- Click “Receive” in Ledger Live
- Select the account you want to receive to
- Verify the address shown on your Ledger device
- Share the verified address with the sender
🚨 Always verify the address on your device screen. Malware on your computer can change clipboard addresses.
8. Sending Crypto Safely
To send assets:
- Click “Send” in Ledger Live
- Paste the recipient's address and enter amount
- Review fees and confirm
- Authorize the transaction on your Ledger device
All transactions require approval via physical button press on the hardware device, ensuring they can’t be executed remotely.
9. Manage Your Portfolio
Ledger Live provides a real-time dashboard showing:
- 📊 Asset balances
- 📈 Performance charts
- 📑 Transaction history
- 🌍 Multi-account, multi-currency views
10. Staking, Swapping, and More
Ledger Live supports several financial operations:
- 💸 Staking: Earn passive income with ETH, DOT, SOL, and more
